National Day

No offense, but to me, it obviously doesn't mean much.

When National Day comes around, it seems suddenly everyone is proudly displaying his/her patriotism. You know how in Geog, we learn about the preservation of culture for tourism sake brings about pseudo-culture? I think to a certain extent, it applies here as well. Pseudo-patriotism. After all, it's like one of those things you do because it's the "right" thing to do. You're supposed to be patriotic, so be patriotic lor. But I shan't dwell too much here.

The school gave us souvenirs for National Day. A box of chocolates, which I don't mind. But what takes the cake? A can of baked beans. Like hello? Where is the connection here? Haha. And then come to think of it, the chocolates were also leftovers from the Racial Harmony Day Bazaar, I think. I heard someone talking about buying Guylian chocolates on that day. Ren suggested that Nabil send the baked beans to charity or something. Such a kind soul, eh.

Wait. Speaking of kind souls. The kind soul who was supposed to lend me Memoirs of a Geisha and some other book. What happened, huh?

Dined at Fish & Co. I'd never eaten there before so I convinced Aqil to give it a try.

Aqil got quite a big portion.. But it was too well done for my taste and there wasn't enough sambal on the sambal fish.

I digress a bit here but doesn't the remains above remind you of a Pri school thing when for Science, we had to do those "I am a ...." thingies. Once, I forced my family to eat fried fish for days because I wanted to get 3 stars for getting a fish skeleton so that it'd help me get the "I am a Zoologist" badge. Haha.

Notice I didn't mention my own order? It was terrible. The Fish & Co. fish has that annoying fishy taste la. Ironic a bit. But it means they just fry the fish like that. Without additional whatever to remove that fishy taste. And I hate that. If my Mum makes fish, she'll add ginger to take away that fishy taste and her cooking is awesome. Maybe seafood is just not my thing.

We were sitting by the beach later when something caught my eye.

It was dark, and few people were around. And in the shadows, quite a distance away, was another couple. The movements of the silhouettes which indicated the gyrating of hips was quite incriminating. Hmm..
